What we are

FADECO is a local Non Government Organization (NGO) registered under the Societies Ordinance of the United Republic of Tanzania on 27th Feb. 1996 with Registration No. SO 8737 with a charity status (not-for profit). It is Non Denominational, non sectarian and non political organization. It is strictly a humanitarian and ecumenical Development organization. Man and Development are the key points. Its main target group is grassroots community: THE FAMILY: Father-Mother-Child(ren).

FADECO is a service organization.

Where we are

FADECO has its head office and main area of operation in Karagwe district, Kagera region, NW. Tanzania. Its head office is located at Kyanyamisa Station, Nyakasimbi Village (37 Km from Kayanga, the district Headquarters). It has a logistical office at Kayanga which has connection to both electricity from the grid and to telephone facilities.

Some facts about Karagwe:

"Karagwe district lies among high potential agricultural areas in Kagera Region, with adequate rainfall (average 1200 mm) and fertile soils. Coffee is the main cash crop but this has faced a very big setback because of the fall in world market prices. A kilogram coffee now goes for TShs 70/ compared to TShs 350/- in 1999. Nevertheless, the district has a very high potential of economic growth were it to diversify its economic base, by indulging in other non traditional export/ cash products of which bee keeping is one.

Land use Plan of Karagwe district*:

TOTAL LAND AREA 670,000 HA.
Land potential for agriculture 201,000 ha.
Rocky and bushes 254,600 ha.
Forests and forest reserves 202,400 ha.
Game reserves 12,000 ha.

Agricultural Land Utilization:

Total area under cultivation 163,190 ha.
Area under perennial cropping 54,490 ha
Area under food crops only 106,700 ha

FADECO belongs to several Local and International Networks of NGOs. On the district level, it belongs to the Karagwe District Network of Voluntary Organizations (KADENVO). Nationally, it belongs to the Eastern Africa TEchnology Development Network (EATEDN). Internationally, FADECO is member to Arid Lands Information Network (ALIN), AGREN, Farmers World network and NOGAMU.
