SENSITISATION SEMINAR ON THE USAGE OF ICTS FOR DEVELOPMENT TO COMMUNITY LEADERS IN KARAGWE DISTRICT, 7th August 2003.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

On behalf of the Executive Committee of FADECO and on my own behalf, I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to the International Institute of Communications and development (IICD) for accepting to support this sensitisation seminar in Karagwe. This was the first of its kind in the region and brought together over 50 participants from a wide cross-section of the development community in Karagwe.

I would like in a particular way, to express my thanks to Mr. Arjan de Jager, for his personal interest and commitment to promote ICTs in Tanzania, and even in the remot areas such as Karagwe. It was Mr. Arjan who first responded to FADECO's request in 2002 which culminated in FADECO being invited to participate in a technical update seminar in Dar es Salaam towards the of March 2003.

I would also like to take this opportunity rto express my thanks to all people who helped in one way another. Mrs Sharmila Bhart played a very important role and made sure that funds for the project are safely transferred to FADECO on time. She further accepted to spare one of her key technical staff, Mr. Andrew Makota to travel to Karagwe, to help in the facilitation of the seminar. Mr. Andrew's input is highly acknowledged. I wish to thank him here for his effort and skills.

I would also like to thank Mr. Ng'wanashigi Gagaga (IT Complex) for his charming input. I wish to mention also in this report, the following persons who gave their useful input and made the seminar a success: Dr. Ngalinda, Mr. Laurence Corps and Mr. Masembejo. I wish also to express my thanks to my colleagues at FADECO who helped in the mobilisation and logistics during the seminar: Mr. Titus Itegereize, Mrs. Elieth Sekiku and Sosthenes Bikogoto.

Last but not least, I wish to thank the organisations that showed keen interest in the seminar and sent promotional materials to the seminar: Africaonline (T) Ltd, TTCL- Kagera, AITEC and Satcom Ltd.

It is my sincere hope that IICD and all interested organisations will continue to support our efforts to make Karagwe e-present.
