LOW COST HOUSING, a solution in low income rural communities

Sekiku + Venant making bricks at Kyanyamisa, 1993

Every human being has a right to descent housing. Given the economic instability of our region, very few people can afford such decent housing.

Yet in a fast changing world, the young generation have had the chance to know how our fore fathers consftucted their houses. Should we advocate, a return to basics? Live modern but think traditional.

The current trend of building (the modern way) uses burnt bricks. This has become very common. But how about the environmental havoc. Look around around and see how the brick burning industry is contributing to environmental destruction and deforestation.

FADECO proposes the technology of using soil stabilized blocks. Among other things, they are environmentally friendly.

The blocks are not fired but simply dried. This means that there is less effect on the environment in terms of forest destruction to get firewood for firing/ burning bricks (as is common practice), less environment pollution with smoke, no fuel costs and the environment is saved.

Read on in the technology site and learn how to make your durable building bricks without harming the environment.
